July 15, 2020: Special Humana Gift Supports Covenant House Youth
$60,000 grant received from Humana Medicaid’s COVID-19 Relief Fund
July 15, 2020 – Humana has announced a special $60,000 gift to support the homeless youth and children at Covenant House during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Executive Director Jim Kelly voiced the organization’s gratitude:
“We are thrilled to be recipients of Humana Medicaid’s COVID-19 Relief Fund! This special gift will allow us to continue providing 24/7 comprehensive care and support to over 200 homeless youth and children every night during these unprecedented times. We are grateful for Humana’s continued partnership and ongoing work to make our community a healthier and safer place.
Often our homeless and at-risk youth—survivors of child abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking—are sadly forgotten. Today, this act of kindness has lifted up the beauty of our young people: each one good, and brave, and worthy.
We are truly blessed by Humana’s thoughtful and generous support.”
Last year, Covenant House New Orleans served 900 homeless, at-risk, and trafficked youth (ages 22 and under). As the only 24/7 emergency shelter serving homeless youth in our state, we are on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are committed to keeping our doors open to provide safety, shelter, and support to every young person who comes to us in need in this crisis.
Over the past 32 years, we have provided 30,000 kids with food, shelter, clothing, medical attention, individual & family counseling, educational assistance, vocational & job training services, life skills, short & long term housing, and more.
Covenant House International helps young people in 31 cities across Latin and North America.
